The Minister of Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, last Monday, May19, 2025 swore into office a nine-member board for the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) .
The Board is Chaired by Mr. Basil Ahiable with Mr. Justice Srem-Sai, the Deputy Attorney-General; Hon. Jocelyn Quarshie, the Member of Parliament for North Dayi, Mr. Isaac Faikue, Mr. Frank Agyare, Hon. Alhaji A.B.A Fuseini, Dr. Ahmeh Zakaria Abdulai, Hajia Fatima Adamu and Mr. Frank Mante, the Chief Executive officer of the PPA, as members.
In a speech, the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ato Forson, charged the new governing board to promote transparency, enforce value for money and reverse the increasing trend of single source procurement (sole sourcing) in public procurement.
He urged the board to have a strong and decisive leadership in their tenure, expressing concern over the prevalence of inflated and poorly awarded contracts. He emphasized the need for significant changes in public procurement procedures, highlighting the recent ammendment of the Public Procurement Act as a tool to curb abuse and enforce compliance.
The Minster reassured the board of the Ministry of Finance’s support and encouraged members to maintain honesty and accountability.
In response, the Board Chairman, Mr Basil Ahiable, pledged the board’s commitment to professionalism and said they would ensure that effective and transparent procurement methods would be prioritised.
