PPA launches the Methodology for Assessing Procurement Systems (MAPS) Assessment for Ghana

On November 26, 2024, the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance and World Bank officially launched the Methodology for Assessing Procurement Systems (MAPS) Assessment for Ghana. The event, which took place at La Palm Royal Beach Hotel, marks the beginning of a new phase in public procurement reform.

Key figures from several leading entities involved in government procurement and governance, as well as international organizations and civil society organizations in Ghana, attended the launch.

The speakers at the event included Frank Mante – CEO of PPA, Kwame Prempeh – Deputy CEO of PPA, John Wuleji – Ministry of Finance (World Bank Desk), Lina Tutuanji – Senior Procurement Specialist (World Bank) and HUB Coordinator for Ghana, Sierra Leone and Liberia, Mr Raymond Muhula – Lead Ghana Specialist (World Bank), and Carl Lokko – Procurement Specialist PFM4SD

In his welcome and keynote remarks, Mr. Frank Mante emphasized the importance of implementing best practices in procurement to accomplish national development objectives and guarantee the accountable use of public funds. According to other speakers at the event, the new methodology aligns with international standards. It will be a key tool for governments to improve public procurement systems, especially in developing nations.

Representatives from the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), European Union (EU), University of Ghana, Methodist University, Judicial Service, Internal Audit Agency (IAA), Ghana Institute of Procurement and Supply (GIPS), and African Development Bank (ADB) were also present at the event.

This launch is a significant step towards realizing more transparent, efficient, and accountable procurement systems that can better serve the public interest and contribute to sustainable economic development. With the support of diverse stakeholders, the Methodology for Assessing Procurement Systems (MAPS) Assessment for Ghana is poised to impact public procurement practices worldwide.
